Somaliland has some of the highest solar irradiation rates in the world and excellent wind power potential along the coast. As the demand for electricity grows, there is a critical need for independent power producers (IPPs) and renewable energy solutions to lower energy costs for local industries. Opportunities also exist in hydrocarbon exploration, with several blocks showing promising oil and gas reserves.

Anchored by the DP World-managed Berbera Port, Somaliland is positioning itself as a key logistics hub for the Horn of Africa. The expansion of the Berbera Corridor creates immense opportunities for investments in warehousing, dry ports, trucking fleets, and construction materials to support the growing trade flow into landlocked Ethiopia.

Despite its arid climate, Somaliland has vast tracts of arable land suitable for farming. Investment potential lies in modern irrigation systems, greenhouse farming, and the production of cash crops like watermelons, tomatoes, and cereals. Additionally, the region is a premier source of world-class Frankincense, offering unique export opportunities in the gums and resins sector.

Somaliland is rich in mineral deposits that remain largely under-explored. Geological surveys indicate significant potential for gold, copper, and rare earth elements, alongside known deposits of gemstones, iron ore, and manganese. The sector offers early-mover advantages for exploration companies and those looking to set up extraction and processing operations in a geologically promising region.

With an 850-kilometer coastline along the Gulf of Aden, Somaliland possesses one of the richest unexploited fishing grounds in the region. The sector is ripe for investment in cold chain logistics, fish processing plants, and canning factories. Currently, only a fraction of the sustainable catch potential is utilized, offering high returns for commercial fishing operations.

As the backbone of the economy, livestock accounts for the majority of Somaliland’s exports. Opportunities exist not only in traditional export but in modernizing the value chain. Investors can tap into meat processing, leather tanning, and dairy production facilities to add significant value to the millions of camels, sheep, and goats exported annually.
